FAQs
Interested in ordering?
If you want to get a custom wired board, the first step is to send us a pic of your pedals laid out on a template of a (size board that we make). Please leave enough room to plug the cables in. We always require this step. It helps us to determine if we can do our quality of wiring on a the size board that you want to build. We always work with the customer on final layout and signal flow, but the initial pic lets us see what we are getting ourselves into…..
All orders are taken over the phone.
There are many details to discuss when building these custom boards so the phone works best for us.
Please call 8-5 Mountain Time. If you miss us, please leave a message. We have our hands full most of the time and rely on our answering service.
We typically don’t answer the phone until around 3:00 Mt. time each day. This is when we return the messages left. So please leave a message, we return all calls. :o)
Vel-Top versus Hard-Top.
The Vel-Tops are for the player who needs to change their boxes around quickly. It is a Velcro style product that really holds the pedals well, but has flexibility for quick changes.
The Hard-Tops & Glow-Tops use a different Velcro system that has insane holding power. The Velcro is rated at 35lbs. psi. We can put two, 2” strips on a Dyna-Comp and pick up a 90lbs. pedalboard while only hanging on to the Dyna-Comp……. You can still change your boxes around w/ this style of Hard-Top/Velcro, but it’s holding power is intended for touring/flying etc……
When installing your power supply...
When installing your power supply under the board it helps to take a hair dryer and warm the area on the wood where you are going to stick the Velcro. Also warm the adhesive on the Velcro that goes to the power supply side as well. Once they are warmed then stick to the power supply and top and they will stick much better.
If you want for you power supply or other boxes that you are installing under your board to be more professionally mounted, order our Tour Grade Velcro from us. This is what we use when we are doing our Custom Wiring.
How much does a "Glow-Top" like the "blue" one on the front page of the website cost?
The way the pricing is laid out on the "Custom Wiring" page, the customer can get a good estimate on how much his/her pedalboard will be, based on what he/she wants, what he/she already owns (George L's/Pedal Power 2 etc..) if the pedalboard is going to be a standard item or custom, number of pedals, case choice etc.
Can Trailer Trash fix my broken Boss pedal?
No, we don't do any kind of tech work, only custom-wired pedalboards. We ask that you test all of your pedals before sending them to T-Trash for installation. We also ask that when you order a custom wired pedalboard, that you agree that all of your pedalboard contents have been checked and are in 100% working order, clearing Trailer Trash of any liability for any non-working pedals. Any pedals shipped to T-Trash that do not work will unfortunately delay the process. (Your non-working pedals will be returned to you until they are in usable condition.)
The Diamond Plate boards look heavy - are they?
The actual Diamond Plate shell on a 30"x18" "Rock-Star Trash" weighs about 2-3 lbs. as do the shells of all models. Adding the clear top and a blank "Glow-Top" is about 12 lbs. Nice and light, but very sturdy. The Formica/Velcro tops are lighter than the Glow-Top by about 5 lbs. Not heavy at all. The "Rock-Star Trash" red Glow-Top on the website is about 35-40 lbs fully wired w/ pedals in a soft case. 50-55 lbs in an ATA case.
Does the lighting in the "Glow-Tops" make the guitar rig hum or buzz?
No, it is silent. We could actually run the lights off of the same power source for the pedals, but opt to have a separate power source just for the lights. The power source is slim and lightweight.
I'm thinking of wiring my own pedalboard, is there anything weird I might run into?
Yes. Try to keep wah pedals from being right above a Pedal Power 2. Trailer Trash recently installed a Morley "Bad Horsey" wah and mounted the Pedal Power 2 on the underside of the board directly beneath the Bad Horsey. This configuration led to a very loud hum. We tried mounting a Cry Baby instead of the Morley and got the same results. So try to keep your wahs away from the PP-2.
If you are unsure of what order to plug your fx's in, T-Trash is always happy to help you with the signal flow on your custom wired Trailer Trash Pedalboard.
Unlike the competition, we are not carpenters building wooden boxes. We are pro players who have knowledge of most of the current effects on the market. We not only design custom one off pedalboards, but we also design guitar tone for all genres of music.
A rock player's pedalboard can differ drastically from country players' boards, and we understand what it takes to help each player achieve his/her tonal goals. Please ask us about stomp boxes. If you look in our Trailer Trash Pedalboard Gallery, you will see that we have had most effects through the T-Trash shop. We play Tom Anderson - PRS - Suhr -Vintage Gibson and Vintage Fender guitars through all of them.
For amps we use Vintage Marshalls - Vintage Fenders - Wizard - Guytron - Bogner - Fuchs - Divided by 13... We even keep a vintage '50s-'60s Silvertone amp on the bench for listening to your pedalboard as we wire and test them one pedal at a time. T-Trash invests a ton of time and money into our research of tone. We are constantly buying new and vintage pedals - amps and guitars in effort to stay on what's hip and cool on the market.
So before you go to the competition, please consider who's building your pedalboard; a carpenter, or a seasoned pro guitar player.
How much will my custom idea cost?
We have provided an itemized pricing page in effort to help you determine how much your board will cost after it's been custom wired by T-Trash. Please remember to add the side a/c's - ¼" ins/outs - George L's plugs - x-cord etc...
Each box has a charge, which is also listed on the pricing page. The style of wiring will determine the actual charge.
6-8 week wait for custom wiring?
No, we don't need your pedals for 8 weeks. We build your custom pedalboard in 2 phases. Once you have figured out what size board that you need using a template that you have made, T-Trash requires a deposit for the cost of the pedalboard, less the wiring charges. This is what gets you in line for custom wiring. Then we build your pedalboard so it's finished before we get your pedals. Once your name comes up on our wiring list we give you a call to let you know that we need your pedals. Once we receive your pedals, we usually only need them for 3-5 days and then ship your finished pedalboard back to you.
We understand that you can't be without your effects for a long time, so we do our best to turn them around ASAP.
Please, when sending your pedals to TT for custom wiring, keep your original boxes at your house. They can be very valuable to you when selling your pedals. Also, they just drive up the cost of your shipping for sending and returning back to you.
When sending your Pedal Power 2 to TT for installation, please make sure to send any and all cables that came with the unit.
